Across the Street Doodle

Another doodle that didn’t turn out exactly like I imagined. Originally it was going to be two girl Doods looking down the street, waiting for a bus, but I couldn’t get the perspective right. So I turned it into two boys waiting to cross a street full of doodles. I struggled the most drawing the handholding scene, but loved how the curly hair Dood turned out. He’s so adorable and puts an immediate smile on my face. I definitely want to include him in more doodles (future mascot maybe?)

And once again, I struggled with the background. I never know what to do with backgrounds and it’s so frustrating, but shortly after finishing this piece I was struck with an idea that may help alleviate this problem. I’m currently working on a doodle to try out my idea (stay tuned!).

And speaking of backgrounds, the doodles in the street were a complete disaster. Too much white, not enough details, and not enough individualization between doodles (but at the same time too much black space between the doodles, if that makes sense).  Granted, kawaii doodles are supposed to be pushed together, but if you draw them correctly, each individual doodle should stand out on its own, even when pressed next to each other (and there should be minimal to no space in between them). Sadly these doodles were not drawn well at all.

But at least I can see where I went wrong and understand what I need to work on.
