Last year I posted this unfinished doodle I had struggled over for days. I remember agonizing over what to do with the rug and floor and what colors to paint it. I spent so much time in Procreate testing different color ideas with the image of the drawing that I burned myself. I gave up and posted it here, my first unfinished piece.
Now I’m glad I never finished it.
Let me explain. Recently I overhauled the cork bulletin board that hangs above my desk. I removed a number of old drawings and sketches and replaced them with some of my mini doodles. And this mini doodle was one of them. Although I had never finished it, it was my favorite mini doodle by far. Something about it just made me happy.
And time wore on it and I grew accustomed to the drawing staring me in the face as I worked, it slowly dawned on me why I liked this drawing so much. I liked it because it was exactly what I wanted to do with my art. I just didn’t realize it. It was black and white, it was doodles, it was the home interiors I had fallen in love with drawing. I had been trying so desperately to somehow blend all this together with standard doodle collages that I missed it.
Now I think I finally found it.
As of this post I’m nearly finished with a new doodle in the same style as this one. I’ll have more to say about this and the future of my art journey in the next post, but I’m thrilled that I may have finally found the style of drawing I’ve been looking for.
