Introducing my first drawing that includes colored doodles. I have been thinking about doing this for a while and decided to just go for it. I think it turned out cute. I’m trying to get more comfortable using color in doodles. My preference is still black and white, but I think it’s a good idea to include color doodles once in a while. I recognize that most people prefer color pieces versus black and white ones. For some people (like my daughter) they fill unfinished. This is probably one of the only times I’m willing to change my art for the sake of an audience. As long as I can keep making my beloved black and white doodles, I’m fine with making color doodles occasionally.
Another new element to my art is the inclusion of a QR code that links directly to my blog. Its doodle-like appearance means it will be easy to include in all my drawings. I was able to find a seller on a website called zazzle.com to make me a QR stamp. The smallest size I could find was 1 inch by 1 inch, but I hope to find someone who can make an even smaller one. The goal is to include the QR code in a way that makes it easier to blend in with the other doodles.
I’ve been thinking of different ways I can make my art more identifiable in case of possible theft and the QR code is one of the ideas I came up with. I want to stress that I’m not doing this because I think it will prevent theft. The goal is to make it harder for anyone to claim my work as their own. Someone may be able to easily erase a watermark or signature, but erasing the QR code, which is part of the artwork itself, will require a thief to actually put in some work to replace it. I can’t stop people from potentially stealing my work but I don’t have to make it easy for them to do so.
I’m also working on additional covert ideas to help make my art more identifiable in case of theft. My ideas may seem over the top for some reading this but it’s the only thing that makes me comfortable sharing my art online. I recently started sharing my work on instagram. I don’t want a big following or fame. I mostly enjoy looking at the work of others and liking and commenting. And since I’m doing that I figure I may as well participate too, if only a little. It makes me feel good.
